Bukowski was honest in a way that most buttoned-up-and-constipated men cannot touch. They feel a contempt, and a certain brand of jealousy toward a clearly rough-living man who lived as he pleased and wrote about it, then gained notoriety and money from that which will endure long after his detractors have been neatly buried. -J
