It is some kind of demented, passive ritual disguised as “healing for the victim”, when in fact……get this: it is actually a self-serving emotionally masturbatory fantasy FOR the people who surround you, “trying to help”. It is a form of insanity.

It feels wrong, because it IS wrong. All wrong.

Pitched to bring “closure” to all parties, so those who seek to “help” you can go away feeling they have ‘mission accomplished’ …..and you, still smarting and cowering in your soul — can do no other than thank them for showing you how…
