Pitcher sends it right over the plate.

Swing. Ball.

For what feels like hours, time and space hang like low-hanging fruit.

Second pitch reassess. Swing. Baseline foul.

He removes his cap, repositions. Massages the ball, gauging the odds.

Sizes up. Which pitch keeps ’em there? Which sends ’em on their way? The dependable ones work every time. Different combinations — different batters who all look alike as they try their best, against the best.
