I once pulled two Alice Coopers to play at the top of the hour — midnight!- the first night high school grads were crusin’ small town drive-ins, seeking to cultivate sweaty new 20-minute relationships.

These songs were clearly not in proper rotation, but, again, it was a mission.

Midnight: “School’s Out” segged with “Eighteen”, and let it rip!

One of my phone line blinkers was my boss and boy was he pissed. “ ‘A rotation’ runs after station I.D.” he clenched. “Yessir, I’llneverdoitagainpleaseforgiveme,” (and don’t fire me THIS TIME).

I guess my fans rushed him with thank you phone messages later that morning, sensing my fear, respecting my process, fending off The Man who held my career and my next paycheck in his hands.

24 hours later I thanked them with an hour of next-set requests.

Yeah.

I got to hear about that, too…
